CAHABA MEMORIAL FUNERAL CHAPEL: Announce with the deepest sympathy the passing of Mr. R L Underwood on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
R L'S LIFE STORY:
Mr. RL Underwood, Sr. was born to the parentage of the late John Underwood and the late Ora D. Hunt Underwood on June 18, 1950, in Centreville, Alabama.
At a young age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Saints Assemble Church, under the leadership of Bishop Ned Underwood, Sr. He later joined Shiloh Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor James McBride. Later, he was ordained as a deacon and served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor James Earl Hayes.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Jessie Mae Clark Underwood and to that union six children were born, as well as one child from his union with Earlean Underwood.
Mr. RL, a loving father and hardworking individual, was known for his passion for farming and his unwavering commitment to being a dedicated family man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his late wife, Faustine Underwood; one grandson, Gerald Murphy; four sisters, Eva Mae Underwood Smith, Lou Ella Underwood Gardner, Rosetta Underwood Moore, and Carrie Underwood Burrell; and one brother, Ned Underwood, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: four daughters, Jessie (Leon) Sprott, Brent, AL, Eva Underwood, Brent, AL, Mattie Underwood, Brent, AL, and Erica (Jason) Presley, Greenville, AL; three sons, RL (Jackie) Underwood, Jr., Brent, AL, Eric (Jonathon) Underwood, Brent, AL, and Darius (Alicia) Underwood, Brent, AL; two grandchildren whom he loved as his own, Jonathon (Jenisha) Underwood, Brent, AL, and Ja’Terrius Underwood, Brent, AL; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Annie Goodgain, Birmingham, AL; one brother, King (Wyteria) Underwood, Centreville, AL; one dear and very special friend, Andrea Weed; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
PUBLIC VIEWING: Will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 12 Noon to 4:00 PM at Cahaba Memorial Funeral Chapel.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Will be held on Saturday. May 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM at New Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church 51 King Place Brent, AL 35034 Gregory Hollis, Pastor
INTERMENT: Hopewell Cemetery 2069 Bear Creek Road Brent, Alabama 35034
